Disney to bow 'Bugs' video with outtakes

Mouse to market four different versions of vid box

Walt Disney Pictures' "A Bug's Life" will be among the vids hitting store shelves as part of the studio's upcoming sell-through slate that boasts new releases and reissues.

The studio vid arm will back the "Bug's" bow with an extensive marketing campaign that will include four different versions of the video box -- each featuring a different character from the film.

It will also sport both sets of the much talked about "outtakes" that run at the end of the film. The Pixar short "Geri's Game" will also be included on the vid.

Kid Cuisine, Sea & Ski, Nintendo 64 and Disney Interactive will be tapped to help vidmarketeers herald the April 20 vidbow of the Pixar Animation film. Its release will also be prominently advertised in national print and TV spots.

In an industry first, the pic will be digitally transferred directly from the original computer imagery, rather than the typical film-to-tape transfer process.

Since "A Bug's Life" was created entirely in a digital format, this type of digital transfer will ensure the most pristine picture possible.

This allows the full-frame VHS and DVD versions to be electronically reformatted so that no images will be lost in the reductions.

The vid, which will carry a retail price of $26.99, will be joined by the March 23 video releases of "Mighty Joe Young" and the same-day reissue of "The Rescuers."

"Alice In Wonderland," "Robin Hood" and "Madeline: Lost In Paris" will be among the vids gracing the studio's summer video slate.
