Rock the Vote elects duo

Young, Jean to receive Patrick Lippert Award

Neil Young and Wyclef Jean have been tapped to receive Rock the Vote's sixth annual Patrick Lippert Award, a nod that recognizes artists' philanthropic endeavors.

The award, which will be handed out Feb. 23 at L.A's House of Blues, will salute Young for his contributions to Farm Aid and the Bridge School; Wyclef Jean will be honored for his work with the Wyclef Jean Foundation.

The evening will be sponsored by MTV and feature a live performance from Wyclef Jean and the Refugee Allstars.

"Rock the Vote has always celebrated the artist as activist," said Seth Matlins. "Neil and Wyclef embody the spirit of community activism that is being embraced by youth across America."

Also being honored for community activism are local radio stations KROQ and KKBT "The Beat."

Previous Lippert Award honorees include R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Queen Latifah, Chuck D., Hootie and the Blowfish, Sheryl Crow and L.L. Cool J.

Rock the Vote is a nonpartisan org dedicated to protecting freedom of artistic expression and helping young people utilize their power to affect civic change in their communities.
