Cin-Groupe, Sony toon in 'Babies'

Ani series to preem on Fox Family in fall

TORONTO -- Cin-Groupe and Sony Wonder announced Tuesday a new animated series called "Mega Babies," set to premiere on Fox Family Channel in the fall.

Cin-Groupe and Sony Wonder, subsidiaries of Lions Gate Entertainment and Sony Music respectively, are co-producing the series, created by Christian and Yvon Tremblay, ("SWAT Kats") and L.A.-based Landmark Entertainment Group. Landmark maintains domestic merchandising rights while international distribution is represented by MediaWorks International and Cin-Groupe.

"Mega Babies" follows the adventures of three orphans-in-diapers battling evil in the universe.

Line producer Louis Duquet said the show is targeted to kids ages 12-16. "It's not a copy of 'Ren & Stimpy,' " Duquet said, "but it wants to be funny and inspired by it."

Budgeted at between C$9 million ($5.9 million) and $6.6 million, 52 10-minute episodes will be designed and pre-produced in Montreal and animated in Asia. The episodes will be bundled into 26 half-hour daily shows.
