NEW YORK -- Billy Crudup ("The Hi-Lo Country") and Samantha Morton ("Under the Skin") have agreed to star in Alison Maclean's sophomore effort "Jesus' Son."

Maclean's 1992 debut, "Crush," won critical acclaim at the Cannes, Sundance and Toronto film festivals.

Currently lensing in Philadelphia, "Son" is being financed by New York-based indie Evenstar Prods. Evenstar principals Elizabeth Cuthrell and David Urrutia are producers. Lydia Dean Pilcher (upcoming "The Cradle Will Rock") is exec producer.

"Son" features Holly Hunter, Dennis Hopper, Denis Leary, Will Patton and Greg Germann (of TV's "Ally McBeal") in supporting roles.

Set in the 1970s, "Son" is a road movie that chronicles the volatile relationship between a man and a terrifyingly charismatic woman.

The script was adapted by Cuthrell, Urrutia and Oren Moverman from Denis Johnson's collection of short stories "Jesus' Son."
