Bernstein x 2 at the WB
Drama development VP takes on p'gramming duties
Bernstein has served as vice president of drama development at Columbia TriStar TV for the past two years, after joining the studio as a director four years ago. She is credited with bringing Columbia's teen hit "Dawson's Creek," along with its creator, Kevin Williamson, to the WB. She also helped develop the ABC frosh drama "Cupid."
At the WB, Bernstein will report jointly to executive VP of programming Jordan Levin for her alternative programming duties and to senior VP of comedy and drama development Kate Juergens regarding her drama responsibilities.
Her new duties will include expanding the WB into reality series, specials and telefilms. The WB is already exploring the creation of a couple of award shows.
Prior to joining Columbia, Bernstein was a director of development and production at the FX cabler, where she helped develop the reality series "Lost and Found." She also worked for Fox developing telefilms and miniseries as a manager of creative affairs for Fox West Pictures. She began her career at CAA in the motion picture lit department.
"Having done movies-of-the-week development at Fox and reality development at FX, she's well-suited for both jobs," Levin said. "Carolyn has such an eye. She's recognized as an executive with a reputation for finding fresh voices, and we're confident she'll take that skill and put the WB stamp on a variety of new and different programming forms."
"I've loved working at Columbia, but I felt like it was time to take on new challenges, and the WB sounded like the perfect fit," Bernstein said. "They're doing the most exciting stuff."
