Grubin makes 'Power' grab

Indie developing mini for CNBC

NEW YORK -- In a move that signals a new direction in programming for CNBC, David Grubin Prods. is developing a four-hour miniseries for the cabler entitled "The Power of Business."

If it makes it to cable, the miniseries will premiere in the fall of 2000 and run one hour a night for four consecutive nights.

This would be a scheduling change for CNBC, which runs breaking business news during the day on weekdays and talkshows and news in primetime.

Davis writing, producing

Independent film director Nick Davis ("1999") is working for David Grubin Prods. on "The Power of Business" in writing and producing capacities.

A CNBC spokesman characterized "The Power of Business" as being in the early stages of development for the cable web. He added that the series is one of several similar projects in development at CNBC.

In another recent move indicating that CNBC will widen its programming focus beyond business news and talkshows, in late 1998 the cabler said it has acquired "National Geographic Explorer." The nature series has run for years on TBS Superstation.
