Music: Movie tie-ins boost recording arm

SPECIAL REPORT
The studio's music arm, under the aegis of Robert Kraft, considerably raised its industry profile during the year through its association with a number of top-selling soundtracks based on Fox properties. The enviable track record also earned Kraft an ascension to prexy of the division.

The soundtrack to "Titanic" (Sony Classical) was the industry's bestselling album of the year with a worldwide tally north of 26.5 million units, and the Vonda Shepard-warbled music from Fox TV's "Ally McBeal" earned multiplatinum success (550/Epic), as did discs from "Hope Floats" (Capitol) and "Dr. Dolittle" (Atlantic).
