TV Guide readers love 'Raymond,' 'Blue'

Eye web gets most nods in mag kudofest

NEW YORK -- The Eye web's Emmy and Golden Globe-shunned sitcom success "Everybody Loves Raymond" has finally gotten its due from a kudos competish.

TV Guide readers have nominated the Ray Romano laugher in the favorite comedy series category of the mag's awards show, set to bow Feb. 1 with a two-hour live ceremony on Fox. The listings journal announced nods for the TV Guide Awards on Sunday.

ABC's "NYPD Blue" led the balloting for the kudosfest, picking up four nominations overall, including nods for fave drama and actress (Kim Delaney) and two for fave actor (Dennis Franz and Jimmy Smits.) Fox's "The X-Files" followed with three nods.

CBS led the network competition with 15 nominations, followed by NBC (14), ABC (11), Fox (8) and PBS (2). Nickelodeon was the only cabler to garner mention, picking up two nods in the kiddie category for "Blue's Clues" and "Rugrats."

UPN didn't garner any nods, nor did the red-hot WB, whose programs have been heavily hyped in the pages of TV Guide (and other mags) over the past year.

Other multiple nominees include "Ally McBeal," "ER," "Frasier," "Martial Law" and "Touched by An Angel," all of which earned two nominations each.

Competing against "Raymond" in the comedy category will be "Ally McBeal" (Fox), "Frasier" (NBC) and "Friends" (NBC).

"ER," "Touched by an Angel" and "The X-Files" will battle "Blue" in the drama division.

Jerry Springer's syndie show got a nod in the favorite daytime talker category, as did "Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee," "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and "The Rosie O'Donnell Show."

In addition to the usual acting categories, TV Guide asked readers to vote for their top shows in latenight, news, sports and kidvid.

Nominations were tallied via ballots published only in TV Guide. The mag says over 1 million ballots were returned.
