Auds can peep at 'Tom' again

'Martin Scorsese Presents' re-release of Fellini thriller

NEW YORK -- Rialto Pictures will follow up its successful re-issue of Fellini's "Nights of Cabiria" with a re-release of Michael Powell's controversial 1960 thriller "Peeping Tom," which will be distributed nationally under the "Martin Scorsese Presents" banner.

In "Tom," Carl Boehm stars as a murderer who photographs his victims at the moment of death so that he can watch them later on.

When it was originally released, "Peeping Tom" was denounced by critics and effectively ended the career of the man who had directed such acclaimed works as "Thief of Bagdad" and "The Red Shoes."

Scorsese once observed that "from 'Peeping Tom' and '8 1/2' you can discover everything about people who make films, or at least people who express themselves through films."

"Peeping Tom" will open Jan. 29 at New York's Film Forum and will be followed by runs at the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles and the Castro Theatre in San Francisco.
