Michelle Thomas

Actress Michelle Thomas died Dec. 22 of cancer at age 29 in Manhattan.

She had recently received an NAACP Image Award nomination for actress in a daytime drama series.

She appeared as Callie on the CBS soap "The Young and the Restless"; Justine, girlfriend of Theo (played by Malcolm Jamal Warner) on NBC's "The Cosby Show"; and Myra, girlfriend of Steve Urkel (Jaleel White), on ABC's "Family Matters."

She had guest appearances in a number of other TV shows, including "Roseanne," and also performed in music videos, Los Angeles theater productions and several movies, including "Hangin' With the Homeboys."

Born in Boston and raised in New York, she attended the Montclair School of Arts and the Broadway Dance Center.

She is survived by her parents, actress Phynjuar Thomas and Dennis Thomas, a member of the 1970s funk band Kool & the Gang.
