Publisher Axel buys talkshow producer

Teutonic outfit adds to TV portfolio

BERLIN -- German publisher Axel Springer Verlag has purchased a majority stake in Schwartzkopff TV Productions, Germany's leading producer of daily talkshows. Pending the approval of antitrust authorities, Springer plans to acquire more than 75% of Schwartzkopff.

The deal is in line with Springer's strategy to develop new talkshow and information formats for German television. Springer holds a minority stake in German commercial web SAT1, and is currently preparing a news magazine for SAT1.
