Swedlin lands at Industry
Ex-ICM, CAA agent joins embattled percentery
Since early November, when she was reported to be leaving ICM (Daily Variety, Nov. 2) Swedlin's name had circulated for jobs at both the Broder, Kurland, Webb, Uffner Agency and at Michael Ovitz's new management banner, Artists Management Group.
Having worked as an agent at both CAA and ICM and as an independent producer, Swedlin adds a senior presence to Industry's management corps, which has been hard hit by recent defections of several top managers and many of its A-list talent clients.
Within the past two months, Industry managers Rick Yorn, Julie Silverman Yorn, Eli Selden and Stephanie Davis left to join Artists Management Group, where Yorn and Silverman Yorn serve as partners with Ovitz. Among the clients that left Industry for AMG are Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon, Claire Danes, Edward Burns and Samuel L. Jackson.
For Swedlin, Industry offers an opportunity to continue repping writers and directors and to serve as a producer on some of their projects.
Swedlin could not be reached for comment, and it's unclear which of her clients will follow her to Industry. At ICM she has repped such writers and directors as Peter Howitt, Barry Levinson, Whit Stillman, George Armitage, Marshall Herskovitz and Callie Khouri.
