Wilson ankles topper of lottery's Film Consortium

Exec to take on role as legal affairs consultant

LONDON -- Kate Wilson has announced her intention to step down as chief executive of the Film Consortium, one of the U.K.'s three lottery production franchises.

The surprise move comes 14 months after the start of the six-year franchise. In that time, the company has put five films into production and 14 into development as well as sealed long-term U.K. distribution deals with UIP and VCI.

Wilson will remain in her post until a replacement can be found, a process that is expected to take several months. She will then move to the role of legal affairs consultant.

"I came here to set up the company, and I think that's OK now," Wilson said. "Now the company needs to develop and strategize, and I'm certainly no strategist. I like to say that somebody chooses the colors and I paint the walls."

The Film Consortium is partnership between Virgin Entertainment and production companies Scala, Skreba, Greenpoint and Parallax.

Virgin's Robert Devereux, who chairs the Film Consortium, said: "I and the shareholders need to thank Kate for not only helping the consortium successfully fulfill the terms of our remit, but for her achievements beyond that. We are delighted that she will continue to be available to us in a consultancy role."
