B'way: Hare's David

'Via' on way while 'Blue' debuts and Dench to 'View'

NEW YORK -- David Hare's "Via Dolorosa" will land at the Shubert-owned Booth Theater in March, produced by Lincoln Center Theater.

Hare wrote and stars in the solo show, which is a series of reflections on the Middle East inspired by a trip Hare took to Israel. The show opened in September at the Royal Court Theater in London to rave reviews, but an American production was subject to approval by Actors' Equity, the actors' union. The union's committee voted on Wednesday to approve his run.

Equity acquiesces

"We've approved him for 20 weeks, with no limitations," said Alan Eisenberg, the executive director of Equity, adding that in Hare's case, it was decided because of "a question of unique ability."

Lincoln Center Theater's Bernard Gersten is the exec producer for "Via," which will be directed by the original London helmer, Stephen Daldry ("An Inspector Calls").

Hare X 3

Remarkably, "Via Dolorosa" (Way of Sadness) becomes the third Hare play to open on Broadway this season. The Nicole Kidman event "The Blue Room" bows at the Cort Theater Sunday, while Judi Dench is set to star in "Amy's View" next spring.

"I'm Still Here ... Damn It!," Sandra Bernhard's one-woman show at the Booth, will depart after Feb. 27, with "Via" expected to load in by mid-March.
