KMEX adds ayem newscast

Univision flagship responds to news hunger

Univision flagship KMEX Los Angeles will add a 6-7 a.m. newscast to its weekday lineup beginning Jan. 4.

The move by the Spanish-lingo station underscores the increasing appetite in the L.A. market and elsewhere for ayem newscasts.

"Noticias 34: Primera Edicion" will move into the ayem slot currently occupied by a rerun of Univision's nightly 11 p.m. newscast and an entertainment-oriented morning show, some of which will be incorporated into the new hourlong newscast.

"Local news consumption by the Spanish-speaking audience in Southern California is tremendous, as evidenced by the consistent success of our weekday and weekend news programs," said KMEX general manager Augustine Martinez.
