Berlin fest to present Preminger retro

Filmmaker made 37 pix

BERLIN -- The 49th Berlin International Film Festival (Feb. 10-21) is dedicating its annual retrospective to the films of Hollywood director and producer Otto Preminger, the festival announced Wednesday.

The Austrian-born Preminger made 37 films between 1931 and 1979, including the film noir great "Laura." Many of his movies -- such as "The Man With the Golden Arm" and "Anatomy of a Murder" -- challenged the contemporary social and political order. Preminger died in New York in 1986.

With the support of the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek, the Berlinale will present Preminger's complete oeuvre. New and restored prints of many of the films are being prepared for the retrospective.
