India putting Murdoch properties on hold

Star TV snuffed as obscenity case ecalates

NEW DELHI -- The formal process of sealing Rupert Murdoch's Star TV property under court order began Wednesday in India as part of the satcaster's obscenity case.

Details of the movable and immovable property are being compiled so the court can seal the property as soon as possible.

Delhi's metropolitan magistrate Prem Kumar passed the court order last week in a case related to alleged obscene programming on the Star Movies channel.

The case was brought by a citizen who complained that such movies as "Jacksaw Murder," "Stripped to Kill" and "Dance of the Damned" were obscene.

For the last year, Murdoch has personally ignored repeated court summons and instead has been represented in court by Rathikant Basu, CEO of Star TV In-dia. When the Indian foreign ministry was unable to assist in arresting Murdoch through diplomatic channels, the court decided to "attach" all his property in India.
