Mandalay to draw 'Blood' for Dobkin

Spec script bought for six figures

Paramount-based Mandalay Pictures has acquired Ann Lewis Hamilton's spec script "Near in Blood" for a six-figure against high-six-figure sum.

"Clay Pigeons" helmer David Dobkin is attached to direct the pic about an overly ambitious cheerleader who convinces her second-string quarterback boyfriend that in order for him to reach his rightful station in life, he must do away with the starting quarterback.

Karen Teicher, exec VP of production at Mandalay, brought the project into the company.

Mandalay is expected to submit "Near" for casting as soon as Hamilton and Dobkin finish a rewrite of the screenplay.

Hamilton's TV writing credits include "thirtysomething," "Sirens," "Party of Five" and "C-16." She also penned the feature script "Hunger Point" for New Regency.

Dobkin, a veteran commercial and musicvid director, made his feature debut on "Pigeons," which Gramercy released in September. In addition to his ad work with Ridley Scott's RSA, Dobkin has helmed videos for Coolio, Elton John, Sonic Youth, John Lee Hooker and Bryan Ferry.

Dobkin was repped by UTA's Dan Aloni. Hamilton was represented by UTA's Richard Green.
