'Already' star gets TV development deal, sells movie pitch
Separately, DreamWorks has bought a pitch for Leifer's first feature, with Judd Apatow is producing.
Prior to creating "Alright Already," Leifer was a writer on "Seinfeld," and was widely cited as the inspiration for Elaine's character. She also wrote for "The Larry Sanders Show."
Leifer said she hasn't yet decided whether she will act in any of her new series, but if she does, she'll play a supporting role this time.
"It was a lot to star and executive produce," Leifer said of her last show, which "ideally would have worked better on another network. If it had been on NBC, I think it would have been a hit. The slot it ran in, Sunday at 9:30, is the death slot for comedy."
The DreamWorks feature screenplay will be about a long-standing feud between two fading movie actresses. "It's humor in the spirit of 'The First Wives Club,' " Leifer said. "There's no material for actresses over 40."
Leifer is repped by CAA, manager Michael Rosenfeld and attorney Ernie Del.
