Star Wars toy fans get peek

Web site offers glimpse

Hasbro Inc. announced a "sneak preview" Wednesday to deliver the force to Star Wars' most ardent toy fans. The promotion delivers the first glimpse of a new action figure and a new vehicle that won't appear on film until the May 21 release of "Star Wars: Episode I."

"What we're doing is awarding the fans first," said Hasbro spokesperson Holly Ingram. The Episode I figure is Mace Windu, described as a "senior member of the Jedi Council," and the vehicle is a STAP, "a small, one-pilot repulsorlift vehicle outfitted with two laser cannons."

To get them, Ingram said, one needs to: buy six Kenner Star Wars figures between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 1998; send in their register receipts with $2.99 to cover shipping and handling; and specify which of the two "exclusive" toys one seeks in return.

Those content to sneak a peek at the sneak preview, however, need only log onto www.starwars.hasbro.com
