Nick morphs into deals with U.K., France, Italy

Italo 'Blues Clues' plays on Channel One

On the eve of the Mipcom TV trade show in Cannes, one U.S. cabler has inked three program deals with key broadcasters in Europe.

Nickelodeon has signed with the BBC in the U.K. and with TF1 in France for the broadcast rights to air all 20 episodes of its new teenage series "Animorphs."

In addition, the Viacom-owned kids network has licensed the rights to Italy's pubcaster RAI to produce the first localized foreign-language version of "Blue's Clues," Nick's interactive show for preschoolers, for its flagship Channel One.

The deals were unveiled Wednesday by Kathleen Hricik, senior VP Program Enterprises for Nickelodeon Intl.

"Animorphs" is produced by Scholastic Prods. and is based on the Scholastic hit kids' book series by K. A. Applegate. It follows the adventures of five teenagers who can morph into any animal they touch in order to save the world from sluglike parasites called Yeerks.

"Blue's Clues" is a computer-animated series featuring a live-action host and Blue, a puppy that encourages kids to think and play along.

No figure was available for the deals.
