Pals, Prez plan 2000
Spielberg, Jones eye millennium gala
NEW YORK -- Despite the heat on Capitol Hill created by Kenneth Starr's report, President Clinton is acting like a guy who plans to remain in the White House for the foreseeable future. In fact, he's thinking beyond the year 2000.
Bill and Hillary Clinton have asked "Saving Private Ryan" director and DreamWorks partner Steven Spielberg and film and record producer Quincy Jones to orchestrate a lavish celebration of the millennium in Washington, D.C., say unimpeachable sources.
The duo was asked to plan a grand spectacle recently, though likely before the recent release of Clinton's videotaped grand jury testimony. Sources said both Spielberg and Jones are expected to take part. Obviously, their hope is that the Clintons will survive the heat long enough to be in attendance.
