Romanek eyes 'Paradise'
Vid helmer set to make feature debut with D'Works pic
Written by Darren Lemke, "Paradise Falls" is set in a noir world of heaven and hell. It tells the story of a fallen angel who must solve the murder of heaven's top angel, or else paradise will collapse.
Ron Hutchinson is producing; Adam Goodman is overseeing the project for DreamWorks along with Bob Cooper.
Though he has garnered wide acclaim for helming videos for such top music acts as Madonna, En Vogue, Nine Inch Nails, Fiona Apple and Michael and Janet Jackson, Romanek has been slow to jump into the feature arena.
Among the awards he has won for his video work are two Grammys (including a 1998 award for Janet Jackson's video "Got Till It's Gone") and an MTV Video Vanguard Award.
Romanek -- who was one of the founding members of Satellite Films, the boutique musicvid and commercial offshoot of Propaganda Films -- also is attached to direct "Arbus," an indie biopic of the groundbreaking 1960s photographer Diane Arbus. Romanek penned the screenplay based on Patricia Bosworth's biography of Arbus, who committed suicide in 1971. Edward Pressman is producing.
If financing and casting come together on the project, Romanek will go behind the camera on "Arbus" before venturing to "Paradise Falls."
