Humanitas workshops start

Balcer, Stevens to kick off sessions

Scribes Rene Balcer ("Law & Order") and Dana Stevens ("City of Angels") will kick off the 25th year of the Humanitas Master Writers Workshops.

The series, which is free of charge, provides a forum for WGA members to discuss the challenges and pitfalls of incorporating human values in entertainment writing.

Among the other scribes set to lead workshops are David Milch and Bill Clark (both "NYPD Blue"); Ron Bass ("Rain Man") and Robert Rodat ("Saving Private Ryan"); Steven Zaillian ("Schindler's List") and Linda Woolverton ("Beauty and the Beast"); and Richard LaGravenese ("The Horse Whisperer") and Cameron Crowe ("Jerry Maguire").

The seminars are held in Westwood once a month, Sept. 15 through May 15. For more info, call (310) 454-8769.
