Apatow to produce 'Sunday' at D'Works
Ex-'Sanders' exec options romantic memory project
The project, which he will produce, goes into development as DreamWorks is attempting to lure Apatow with an overall film and television deal.
DreamWorks has ponied up a high-six-figure quote to hire "Rain Man" co-writer Barry Morrow to script "Remember Sunday."
The pic is a drama about a man who suffers a brain aneurysm that leaves him without any short-term memory. When the man meets and falls in love with a woman, he must find a way to maintain the relationship, despite being unable to remember anything from one day to the next.
The film is based on a story by Michael Kase, who will receive an exec producer credit. Joey Plager and George Zaloom also exec produce.
According to sources involved with the project, Kase took his treatment to Plager and Zaloom, who thought Morrow would be a good candidate as screenwriter, in part because of his work on "Rain Man." Apatow then optioned the concept to produce at DreamWorks.
Zaloom, who's developing a Disney telepic based on the life of adventurous journalist Nellie Bly, is also slated to direct the indie production "The Last Leg."
Apatow co-exec produced the final season of the HBO sitcom "The Larry Sanders Show" and produced the Jim Carrey pic "The Cable Guy." Other feature experience include his stints as exec producer-writer of "Celtic Pride" and as co-writer and exec producer of "Heavyweights." He has also performed uncredited rewrites on several pics. Apatow is repped by his managers at the Gold/Miller Co. and his agents at United Talent Agency. Morrow is repped by CAA.
