Savage to 'Summer' with Spike
Thesp joins Leguizamo, Sorvino
Lee's 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks and Hostage Prods. are producing the pic, which Buena Vista is distributing.
Victor Colicchio, Michael Imperioli and Lee scripted "Summer," which is set during the 1970s disco era and tells the story of porn star and punk rocker Pepe Valentine.
The film, which stars John Leguizamo, Jennifer Esposito, Adrien Brody, Patti LuPone, Mira Sorvino and Bebe Neuwirth, is lensing in the Bronx in New York.
Producers are John Andrew Gallagher, Sylvia Caminer, Jon Kilik and Lee.
Savage, who plays the part of a photographer in the pic, begins shooting his role in September.
Savage, who came to prominence with his role in the 1978 Michael Cimino-directed "The Deer Hunter," is undergoing something of a career revival. He has roles in Terrence Malick's WWII pic "The Thin Red Line" and Luis Mandoki's Kevin Costner starrer "Message in a Bottle."
Savage previously appeared in Lee's "Do the Right Thing," and worked second unit during the African location shooting of the helmer's "Malcolm X."
Manager Michael Wallach and Artists Agency's Michael Livingston repped Savage.
