Galaxy Latin nets soccer

Satcaster to pipe in games from Italy, Spain

RIO DE JANIERO -- Joining the ranks of broadcasters and satcasters rushing to exploit World Cup fever, DTH operator Galaxy Latin America will offer soccer from Spain and Italy this fall.

Galaxy acquired exclusive Spanish League rights last fall, but has added Italian Serie A soccer rights to its PPV package, following a deal with ESPN.

The pack, available as a per-season buy from Galaxy's DirecTV Latino service, offers an average of eight Spanish and three Italo games per week.

Additionally, DirecTV's carriage of ESPN and Italo net RAI means that subscribers can access a total of up to 16 games per weekend.

The two leagues had more than 120 players participating in the World Cup.
