NBC, Brazil Superstation reup
'Tonight,' 'Time' join lineup
The channel, which for 10 years has carried NBC news programming, will now also carry "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" and the thrice-weekly "Time & Again" with Jane Pauly.
NBC Enterprises' VP of international sales Sergio Getzel hopes the new deal -- good for two years -- will spark further international sales of the Leno talker.
The 1.7-million-subscriber Superstation, which also carries "Today," "Meet the Press" and "Nightly News," will now up its daily slate of NBC material from four to 9.5 hours per day, including repeat airings.
Owned and managed by Orlando Vallone Jr., Superstation also carries product from CBS, PBS and Lifetime and is distributed by Globo subsidiary NET.
From 1995 to 1997, Brazil's cable landscape multiplied fivefold to about 2.5 million homes, but economic woes this year and delays with new operating concessions have kept that figure in check.
