Liebman aboard Brillstein-Grey
Legal eagle will relocate from Gotham to L.A.
Liebman, 39, has, since 1992, been a partner in the New York entertainment law firm Parcher, Hayes & Liebman, which represents clients such as Sony Pictures, BMG and musicians Paul Simon, Mariah Carey, Bruce Spingsteen, the Rolling Stones and Gloria Estefan.
Before joining that firm, Liebman was a federal prosecutor in Manhattan for five years. Liebman has now relocated from New York to Los Angeles to help Brad Grey run Brillstein-Grey's management and production businesses and expand the company into new areas.
"Jon is a really talented lawyer I met years ago in New York," Grey said. "He's going to be very helpful in growing the business, expanding into the cable business and maybe the music business."
Liebman is not a replacement for Lloyd Braun, who ankled his post as president of Brillstein-Grey Entertainment to become chairman of Disney's TV division. Kevin Reilly, the executive vice president of TV, and Michael Rosenfeld, senior vice president of Brillstein-Grey Entertainment, will continue to report directly to Grey.
"I had my whole life and law practice in New York," Liebman said. "The main reason for coming here is that I have incredible confidence in Brad and the company he's built. I made the judgment that there's an incredible opportunity to help grow the business."
Brillstein-Grey Entertainment produces TV series such as "Just Shoot Me," "Newsradio" and "Politically Incorrect With Bill Maher," as well as films like "The Wedding Singer" and the upcoming "Cuba Libre" and "Whispers in Bedlam," which is being developed for Will Smith with Sonnenfeld/Josephson.
Grey said the company is now expanding its roster of TV writer/producers and will produce eight to 14 TV pilots next season.
Brillstein-Grey Enterprises manages such clients as Nicholas Cage, Jon Lovitz, Lorne Michaels, Dennis Miller, Brad Pitt, David Spade and Sylvester Stallone.
