BMG ups Dale

Exec is new senior veep, int'l marketing

In a move designed to foster global marketing strategies rather than regional ones, BMG Entertainment Intl. has tapped Gary Dale senior veep of international marketing.

He will oversee all marketing activities for the repertoire of owned and third-party labels as well as international artist campaigns and the launch of major new releases.

The nod is the latest in a series of shifts orchestrated by BMG Entertainment Intl. prexy/CEO Rudi Gassner to position his international arm for growth in the highly competitive marketplace, which has been impacted by both changing musical tastes and economies.

Marketing visionary

"I believe today's marketplace demands an intensified focus on global marketing strategies," said Gassner. "Gary has a terrific track record of being a visionary marketing executive and leader."

Dale, who will report to Gassner, joined BMG in 1994 from his post as prexy of Buena Vista's Home Video, where he oversaw the vidtitan's Asian-Pacific operation.

A&R under Sweret

The Dale shift will place all A&R management under the aegis of Richard Sweret, senior veep of A&R.

Sweret, a former A&R veep for BMG-owned Arista Records (where he signed such superstars as Sarah McLachlan and Ace of Base), has been integrally involved in the development of repertoire in various countries. He's also been a key exec helping international artists to cross over into the U.S. pipeline since joining the overseas BMG outpost in 1996.
