'Squares' lines up prod'n team

Darley to direct; gameshow premieres Sept. 14

King World Prods. has completed its hiring of the production team for the new version of gameshow "Hollywood Squares," set to premiere in firstrun syndication Sept. 14.

Chris Darley has been named director; Susan Abramson, coordinating producer; and Bruce Ryan, production designer. Veteran scribes Dave Boone, Jon Macks and Matt Neuman have been named to the writing team, headed by Bruce Vilanch. The additions join exec producers Whoopi Goldberg, John Moffitt and Pat Tourk Lee, supervising producer Steve Radosh and host Tom Bergeron.

Darley has directing experience on gameshows, variety specials, music programs and talkshows. His credits include "Scrabble," "Supermarket Sweep," "The Challengers" and the TV spec "Woodstock Relived."

Abramson heads up the gameshow's talent department, booking celebs for the squares. During her career, she has booked such events as the Daytime Emmy Awards, "Comic Relief," the Miss America Pageant and the American Music Awards.

Ryan has created sets for numerous TV productions. His designs have been featured on the MTV Awards, the Emmy Awards, "The Gary Shandling Show" and "Entertainment Tonight."

Boone has written for "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," "Late Night With Conan O'Brien," "Saturday Night Live" and the 70th Academy Awards.

For the past six years, Macks has served as a staff writer on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno." He has also written for the last two Academy Awards programs as well as for the Emmy Awards.

Neuman was the head writer for such shows as "Not Necessarily the Elections With Dennis Miller," "30 Seconds Over Washington" and "The World's Funniest Videos." He has also written for "Saturday Night Live."
