GERMANY

Business web CNBC has withdrawn from German cable systems. The newscaster attributed its withdrawal to high cable-carriage fees. The channel continues to broadcast in Germany via satellite and digital pay-TV platform DF1.

BULGARIA

Ivan Popjardanov, general director of Bulgarian National Television, announced that he will retire from his post on Aug. 14. No successor has been chosen to replace him.

POLAND

A new five member governing board was appointed for pubcaster Polish Television. Richard Kwiatkowski, 37, was named chairman. Kwiatkowski and his advertising company ran the successful presidential campaign two years ago. Kwiatkowski has been called a pragmatist whose main job will be to rid Polish TV of political interference.
