Hollywood fest to fete Grusin, Copeland
Composers will be honored for years of award-winning film work
Grusin, who has received eight Oscar nominations for best score or song and won in 1989 for "The Milagro Beanfield War," will be given the fest's "Hollywood Outstanding Achievement in Music in Film" award.
The prolific composer first got his start on "The Graduate" and since then his work has been featured in pics such as "On Golden Pond," The Firm" and the current Sandra Bullock starrer "Hope Floats."
Best known not for his work writing scores, but as the drummer and co-founder of the rock band the "Police," Copeland will be honored with the "Hollywood Music in Film Visionary" award.
The recipient of five Grammy awards, he has been scoring films since 1983 and his work can be heard in pics such as "Wall Street" and "Fresh" and on the hit TV show "Babylon 5."
The Hollywood Film Festival's purpose is to bring neophyte talent to the attention of the community.
Executive director Carlos de Abreu commented that for these new faces, Grusin and Copeland serve as "perfect examples of what emerging artists should strive to achieve."
