Flanders to fete music

Fest gets under way Oct. 6 in Ghent

The Flanders Intl. Film Festival, the only international fest to focus specifically on the role of music in film, will celebrate its 25th anniversary this fall. Fest and related events will take place in and around Ghent, Belgium, Oct. 6 - 17.

Program will include 140 feature films and 40 shorts divided into main sections, including one spotlighting contemporary Belgian cinema and a tribute honoring directors Alain Resnais, Robert Wise and Peter Ustinov. Official fest competition is the "Impact of Music on Film."

Also included in the schedule is a lifetime achievement award to be presented to a composer, along with sidebar events and activities, including a presentation of the silent classic film "Fall of the House of Usher" (1928), accompanied by a new original full-length score.
