Miramax plumes rights for pair of French pics
'Demoiselles,' 'Amants' to be released by Zoe
Pics will be released by the company's French language label, Miramax Zoe.

Written and directed by Jacques Demy in 1966, "Les Demoiselles" stars Catherine Deneuve and her sister Francoise Dorleac, Gene Kelly, Danielle Darrieux, Michel Piccoli and George Chakiris. Pic tells the story of a group of people looking for love, never realizing that their ideal partners are just around the corner.
"Les Amants" was directed by Leos Carax and stars Juliette Binoche. It follows a love story between two young vagrants that takes place while Paris' oldest bridge -- Pont Neuf -- is closed for repairs.
The deal for "Les Amants" was negotiated by Miramax Zoe president Agnes Mentre and Alain Vannier of Orly Films. The deal for "Les Demoiselles" was negotiated with Agnes Varda, the director's widow, by Mentre and Andrew Herwitz, senior vice president of acquisitions and business affairs at Miramax.
Miramax Zoe has previously released "Ridicule," "French Twist," "The Horseman on the Roof," "Belle De Jour" and "Artemisia."
