Retired film editor started in 1926

Edwin Baedor Bryant, a retired film editor, died of natural causes March 14 in Laguna Hills. He was 88.

The 13th child of a theatrical family, Bryant began his career in silent films at the Astoria Studios in New York City.

In 1926 he began work at Fox's publicity department in New York, moving to Los Angeles in 1929. In 1931 he began a career as an assistant film editor at Universal, becoming a full-fledged editor 10 years later. In 1945 he moved to Columbia, where he stayed until retiring from the film industry in 1969.

Among Bryant's credits are the films "7th Voyage of Sinbad" and "Homicidal" and the TV shows "Father Knows Best" and "Rin Tin Tin."

During World War II, he served in the United States Army Signal Corps Film Division in New York.

Bryant was a charter and lifelong member of the American Cinema Editors, as well as a lifetime member of the Motion Pictures Editors Guild. Bryant also held membership with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

Bryant was pre-deceased by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen. He is survived by a sister, a niece and a nephew.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent in Bryant's name to Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills.
