Edwards into 'Dancing'

'ER' doc Joins top-line cast in low-budget indie pic

"E.R." star Anthony Edwards is laying aside his scalpel to join the ensemble cast of "Dancing About Architecture."

The drama, which is being written and directed by Willard Carroll, already stars Sean Connery, Gillian Anderson, Gena Rowlands, Ellen Burstyn, Angelina Jolie, Ryan Phillipe, Dennis Quaid, Jay Mohr and Madeline Stowe.

"Dancing" is being co-financed and co-distributed by Miramax Films and Intermedia Films. Miramax has U.S. and U.K. rights, and Intermedia the rest of the world.

The low-budget film is being produced by Hyperion Entertainment's partners Carroll and Tom Wilhite, and Liberman Hirschfield Casting's Meg Liberman.

"Dancing" is described as a "humorous and emotional multicharacter drama." Shooting on the pic begins this month in Los Angeles.

Edwards' feature credits include "Top Gun," "The Client" and "The Sure Thing." Other TV credits are telepic "In Cold Blood" and CBS series "Northern Exposure."

He is repped by Lovett Management's Steve Lovett and by UTA.
