Hudlin pacts with Canyon
First-look deal for Reggie and Warrington
The deal is for pictures that will be produced and/or directed by Hudlin. The deal may also cover pics to be directed by Reginald's brother Warrington.
Stone Canyon will have first look at pics in development at Hudlin Bros. and will contribute to the company's overhead costs. Further down the line, Stone Canyon may also provide Hudlin Bros. with development financing.
Stone Canyon has a co-financing and co-distribution deal with MGM Animation for several low-budget animated pics, and Hudlin said that he may feed a few projects into that arrangement.
"We have a number of scripts on the fast track that could start production immediately," said Hudlin.
However, he added that to date the two entities have fixed no specific titles that they wish to produce.
The deal between Stone Canyon and Hudlin Bros. excludes television, where the Hudlins have two half-hour comedies in development at HBO, and, in conjunction with Nelvana Communications, an animated series with Fox Kids Network.
Los Angeles-based Stone Canyon is headed by Ibrahim Moussa, a former senior vice president with Italy's Medusa Film.
Hudlin's other directing credits include the comedies "Boomerang," which starred Eddie Murphy, and "House Party." He also wrote and exec produced the vidpic "Bebe's Kids" and Miramax's "Ride."
Counsel Steven A. Leib negotiated for Stone Canyon. Hudlin was repped by attorney Stephen Barnes of Bloom, Hergott, Cook, Diemer & Klein and by ICM.
