Fonda to make 'Time'
'Gold' thesp joins Blethyn in CinePoint first
The romantic drama, directed by Christopher Cain, is skedded to start shooting Oct. 6 in New York.
The pic is the first from CinePoint Prods., which was formed late last year by marketing and publicity veteran Michael Russell and Stephen LoCascio. It was written by Steven Ginsberg ("Family Prayers"), who will also co-produce.
Set in the Manhattan cabaret scene, "Time" stars Fonda as a successful L.A. attorney who is reunited with his high school sweetheart through unexpected circumstances.
Fonda won a Golden Globe as well as the New York Film Critics' Circle Award for his lead turn in "Gold." Nearly three decades earlier he was Oscar nominated, along with Dennis Hopper and Terry Southern, for the screenplay of "Easy Rider," in which he also starred.
He recently toplined Showtime's "The Passion of Ayn Rand."
Blethyn won best actress kudos from the British Academy of Film & Television Arts and the 1996 Cannes Film Festival for her role as Cynthia in "Secrets & Lies." She also toplines the upcoming "Girls Night."
Cain, whose studio pics include "Young Guns," "That Was Then ... This Is Now" and "The Amazing Panda Adventure," is no stranger to the indie world. He directed "The Stone Boy," starring Robert Duvall and Glenn Close, as well as "Where the River Runs Black," starring Charles Durning.
Russell left publicity firm Rogers & Cowan in October to form CinePoint, where he is also producing "Doing It All," written by Dan Yost ("Drugstore Cowboy") from prison novelist James Fogle's real-life experiences.
