It's a Big 3-0 party for New York mag
Gotham out in force for bash
By
NEW YORK -- New York magazine just turned 30, and Gotham came out in force April 2 to celebrate at Studio 54.
There to toast the magazine that spawned the entire city mag genre were
Ivana Trump (with new beau
Roffredo Gaetani in tow),
Donald Trump (and his model du jour,
Kara Young),
Ed Koch,
Charlie Rose,
Martha Stewart,
Al Sharpton,
Giorgio Armani,
Lauren Hutton,
Johnnie Cochran,
Barbara Walters, ex-Knicks-er
Charles Smith and former New York editor (now New Yorker staffer)
Kurt Andersen.
Editor-in-chief
Caroline Miller, publisher
Amy Churgin and Primedia CEO
Bill Reilly delivered short and sweet messages to the estimated crowd of 1,400 guests.
On hand were plenty of copies of a special 30th anniversary issue of New York -- a sort of "greatest hits" of the mag's three decades.
Among those hits, New York bragged that it has had more cover stories optioned for films ("Saturday Night Fever," "Serpico" and "GoodFellas," to name a few) than any other magazine.
As the cameras flashed, drinks were tossed back and Gotham's glitterati mingled, although one invitee was conspicuously absent: a certain Anonymous author of one "Primary Colors" -- New Yorker writer
Joe Klein -- whose identity was disclosed by New York in 1995.
"Too busy?'' sniffed one attendee. "Or still a little sensitive?"
