Goodwin, other 'X-Files' staff won't make move to L.A.
Original team behind award-winning series breaking up
Goodwin, who's been with the series since its first season, spent the first three years on 'X-Files" as a co-executive producer and the last two seasons as an executive producer. In both roles, he directed numerous episodes, including each season premiere and finale. He also wrote the episode "Demons."
Goodwin said he's leaving the show because he doesn't want to move his family to Los Angeles, so he plans to "explore feature directing and develop ideas for TV series." He also hopes to write a book.
"Bob took what was an extremely ambitious approach to each script, to directing and producing, and he figured out a way to get the job done in time and for the money allotted," said "X-Files" creator Chris Carter. "He helped make TV history."
" 'X-Files' was the most difficult show on TV to produce because it was like doing a little feature every week," Goodwin said. "Chris gave me a wonderful opportunity, and I'm sorry I can't continue."
Also leaving the show are producer J.P. Finn, who's from Canada, the production manager and a whole host of support people from Vancouver. "I have a winning team, and the hard part for me is to break them up," Carter said.
