Reid rolls 'Asunder' thriller

First feature from young studio

New Millennium Studios prez and co-founder Tim Reid announced the facility's first feature film project, "Asunder." Obsidian Prods., based at the nearly year-old studio, will produce, and principal photography began Tuesday.

Reid will direct and produce the suspense thriller along with Dick Atkins. Co-exec producers are Daphne Maxwell Reid and Blair Underwood. Screenplay was written by Eric Lee Bowers, and Johnny Simmons will serve as d.p.

Pic stars Underwood ("Just Cause," TV's "L.A. Law"), Debbi Morgan ("All My Children" and "Eve's Bayou") and Michael Beach ("Soul Food," "Waiting to Exhale").

"Asunder" is the story of two married couples who are best friends and whose lives are torn apart when one of the wives dies in a freak accident. Jealousy replaces mourning as the widowed husband blames his best friend for his loss. Seducing his friend's wife becomes the widower's plot to exact revenge.

Reid has two investment partners for his filmmaking operation: Mark Warner, managing director of Columbia Capital Corp., an Alexandria, Va.-based investment company specializing in emerging technologies; and Dan Hoffler, chairman of Armada/Hoffler, one of Virginia's largest construction and commercial real estate development companies.

New Millennium Studios, Virginia's first and only full-service studio complex for motion picture, commercial, TV and musicvideo production, is located on 60 acres near Richmond. It includes a 14,850-square-foot soundstage, post-production facilities with editing suites and studios for music recording and virtual-reality filming, plus a 15-acre backlot.
