Van Der Beek grabs role in 'Blues'
Just as his series has become a runaway hit for the WB Network, Van Der Beek gets his first lead role in a studio film, playing a second-string high school quarterback who ends up a hero.
Van Der Beek becomes the latest "Creek" cast member to get a movie deal. Katie Holmes, whose first big star turn comes this August in the David Nutter-directed and Scott Rosenberg-scripted MGM film "Disturbing Behavior," will next co-star alongside Helen Mirren in "Killing Mrs. Tingle," the Dimension black comedy that marks the directing debut of "Creek" creator Kevin Williamson.
Michelle Williams has signed on with Dimension to co-star alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in "H2O," another installment in the "Halloween" franchise.
Before the TV series, Van Der Beek had roles in "I Love You, I Love You Not," "Angus" and the upcoming indie "Harvest." Van Der Beek is repped by Jeff Lady and Zoe Lieberman at J. Michael Bloom.
