Keller named sr. VP, Fox Family Channel
He'll handle reality-based programming and specials
As the first high-level primetime exec hired to run the channel under prexy Rich Cronin (who is barred by court order from starting his new job until July 1), Keller will oversee the development and production of all reality-based programs for the channel with an emphasis on the all-original 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. block.
In being responsible for the 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. early prime slate, Keller said on Wednesday that he will put his attention toward creating reality shows, specials and family-style sitcoms.
"The focus is on reality/comedy," he told Daily Variety. "We won't be doing 'When Animals Attack' or 'Cops.' The idea is to create a place where families can come, relax, have a great time and go away with a smile and a sense that they've seen something done in a fresh, new way. We're looking to do pilots that have a different take, that don't look derivative."
Keller has worked as an executive producer and director for both "World's Funniest Videos" and "America's Funniest People" at ABC and produced two seasons of the syndicated "American Gladiators."
Prior to joining Fox Family Channel, Keller headed his own company, Keller Prods. Inc., which handled all TV development and production for Goldwyn Entertainment.
