Mouse taps Berman

Exec named prez of BV Music

The music arm of the Walt Disney Co. has changed its name to the Buena Vista Music Group and tapped industry vet David Berman prexy.

The move is the latest exec hire by recently installed music division chief Bob Cavallo, who as chairman oversees all of the Mouse House's music interests. Berman will report to Cavallo.

The two will shepherd the operation of the music group's Hollywood Records, Walt Disney Records and Nashville outpost Lyric Street Records. They will also administer the operations of Cavallo's Third Rail Records and Mammoth Records, which Disney Studios chief Joe Roth acquired last year.

Berman, a former attorney who signed on at Warner Bros. Records in 1976, joins Disney from Geffen Records, where he served in a senior exec capacity for seven years and led the charge on a number of artists' recording pacts and distribution agreements.

"I've known David since his days at Warner Bros. and I've always thought him to be a brilliant executive with impeccable credentials and a wealth of experience," said Cavallo.
