Woo and Chang to produce
Woo is not currently attached to direct, although it will most likely be developed with the "Face/Off" helmer in mind, sources said Wednesday.
The pic -- one of the first projects set up under Woo and Chang's new deal at the Culver City studio -- is a period action-adventure set in the declining days of the wild West.
Pic chronicles an aging, former lawman who has parlayed his years spent in the saddle into a career as a pulp fiction novelist, writing about crimes of gun-toting outlaws. He is thrust back into action after hearing of a robbery that has a familiar smell to it, which leads him on a hunt for his former nemesis, a legendary outlaw who also has been called to action for one last job.
TriStar prexy of production Chris Lee and exec veepee Amy Baer made the deal for the studio and will oversee its development. Although the merger of TriStar into Columbia Pictures is weeks away, TriStar continues to acquire and develop projects under Lee.
Callaway has been on a roll of late, having struck a deal with Mandalay Entertainment to pen the sequel to the horror hit "I Know What You Did Last Summer"; and with Columbia TriStar/Mandalay TV to turn his feature project "Nightingale One" into a one-hour drama titled "Mercy Point" for UPN.
"The Last Word" marks Glasberg's feature script debut, although the scribe has rung up TV credits for "Swift Justice" and the special "Happy Birthday, Bugs: 50 Looney Years."
Callaway is repped by David Lubliner of the William Morris Agency. Glasberg is repped by Ann Blanchard of the Morris office as well.
