CBS pulls 'Four,' sitcoms
Drama had logged just two episodes
In place of "Four Corners," CBS will air the "Miss USA Pageant" next week and a news special or another installment of "48 Hours" in the Tuesday 10 p.m. timeslot the following two weeks.
On Friday, CBS will replace its two sitcoms with a repeat of "Jag" from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., and after that the NCAA basketball tournament kicks in and preempts series programming for a couple of weeks.
The decision to pull "The Gregory Hines Show" and "Step by Step" may be a sign that the Eye web is abandoning its strategy to go after ABC's TGIF lineup for good.
CBS is not officially canceling "The Gregory Hines Show" and "Step by Step," and sources say the network still believes in the quality of the Hines show and Hines himself. But the ratings for the series, and for all of CBS' Friday sitcoms, have been disappointing.
Ratings for "Four Corners" also hit rock bottom Tuesday. The show fell 44% in homes from its premiere last week to a 4.8/8. It also toppled 22% in adults 18-49 to a 1.8.
Separately, ABC has scheduled the debut of its new midseason drama "Push" for Monday, April 6 at 8 p.m., replacing "America's Funniest Home Videos."
The series is executive produced by Laura Gregory and Andy Morahan, and Mark B. Perry ("Party of Five"). "Push" is produced by Starboard Home Prods. and Great Guns Prods. in association with Stu Segall Prods. Columbia TriStar TV distributes.
"America's Funniest Home Videos" will return to the schedule later this season, possibly as a half-hour on Fridays, depending on the performance of "Hiller & Diller" on that night.
