Elizabeth Gabler, executive veep of production for 20th Century Fox, has reupped with the studio, ending speculation she might leave for another studio. Fox president of production Tom Rothman made Gabler's deal.
After a few months of negotiations, Gabler has inked a new three-year contract, which adds to her duties the supervision of the division's story department and its creative execs.
Gabler currently is overseeing the upcoming releases, "Hope Floats," starring Sandra Bullock; "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" with Angela Bassett; and the romantic thriller "Entrapment," which is set to begin production in April, starring Sean Connery.
One of the studio's more experienced and respected production execs, Gabler had shared exec VP duties with Jorge Saralegui until last December, when he ankled to establish his production banner at Warner Bros. Industry scuttlebutt has held that Gabler also may have been eyeing an exit, but Fox managed to keep one of its seniormost execs for another three years.
"Elizabeth is the Michael Jordan of production executives," enthused Rothman about his highest-ranking production exec. "She is one of Fox's greatest assets, a consummate professional who retains true and dedicated passion for the art and joy of moviemaking."
Gabler joined the studio in 1989 as a VP of production. Since then she has worked on such films as "A Walk in the Clouds," "Prelude to a Kiss," "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Waiting to Exhale."
She began her career at International Creative Management, where she became an agent in the literary department. Before joining Fox, she was a creative exec at Columbia Pictures and a VP of production at United Artists.
