Luring Lewinsky
Radio station dangling $5 mil for tell-all
"We do not want her naked," emphasized KVBC general manager Dane Witt.
Besides the March 12 deadline for Lewinsky and her lawyer, William Ginsburg, to respond, KVBC's parent Sunbelt Communications has attached a few additional conditions in exchange for the $5 million, including the stipulation that Lewinsky could not conduct any other interview either before or 30 days after her chat or risk not only losing the $5 million payment but another $5 million in liquidated damages.
The money would be deposited into an escrow account prior to the interview and would be paid only after it was determined that Lewinsky "fully and truthfully answered all of the questions asked," according to Wilt's offer sheet. In other words, none of that "I can't remember" stuff.
Wilt said that he doesn't believe Lewinsky is under any sort of judicial gag order. "If she can talk to us, we figured this offer was a good way to hopefully save taxpayers a couple of million dollars as the government drags this thing on for a few years," he said.
Any bites yet?
"Haven't heard a thing," Wilt said. "We're not even positive that she knows about it."
One thing the offer has accomplished, however, is to put KVBC-FM on the map. Wilt said that in the past few days he has done interviews with the BBC, the New York Post, the Washington Times and both Canadian and Australian radio.
Concludes Wilt: "Monica has already been good to us, whether she talks to us or not."
