Brill to direct two pix for Screenland

'Night' and 'Roller' on tap

EXCLUSIVE
"The Mighty Ducks" creator Steven Brill has signed a two-picture directing deal with Ash Shah and Adam Del Deo's Screenland Pictures.

Brill, who penned all three of the "Ducks" installments and directed Disney's "Heavyweights," will helm "High Roller" (Daily Variety, Sept. 30, 1997) and "Late Last Night" from his own scripts for Screenland.

"Night" is a comedy that begins when a young man stalks off after having a fight with his wife. He and a buddy then set out on an all-night party marathon which takes them through the seamy underside of Los Angeles.

"High Roller," is a comedy-drama that chronicles the downward spiral of a twentysomething chef, a well-intentioned compulsive gambler, who falls deeper and deeper into debt.

Screenland's sister company, Imperial Entertainment, will likely handle foreign sales on both pics. No domestic distribution deal has yet been signed.

The pic will be produced by Shah, Del Deo, Jim Burke, Betty Thomas and Jenno Topping.

Brill recently did a production rewrite on 20th Century Fox's Eddie Murphy starrer "Doctor Dolittle," which Thomas directed.

Screenland also announced plans to remake the Danish box office hit "Pusher" with Matthew Bright ("Freeway") directing.

Shah is producing, along with Dan Chuba and Jamie Dixon, UA's "Supernova," starring James Spader.

Brill was repped by ICM's Richard Feldman and attorney Bob Wallerstein.
